Merry Christmas!

Wow, it's Christmas Eve and tomorrow is Christmas 2010.  It doesn't seem possible.  My dad has told me several times "The older you get, the faster time goes by."  Well, I don't really consider myself old, but this year has flown by.

Thinking back I have memories of great times at Christmas.  I remember that I couldn't hardly go to sleep on Christmas Eve because my mind was racing with what "Santa" would bring.   Just like all kids, the three of the children in the Wheat's home always like the presents.  We weren't poor, but we were just broke.  We never knew it.  Mom and dad always seemed to make sure all three kids had plenty for Christmas.  I know now that mom and dad made every penny stretch and probably did without some things for themselves to make sure there were smiles on our faces on Christmas morning.  Thanks mom & dad.

Now the roles have changed.  It seems like yesterday that Krystal and I celebrated our first Christmas together.  Then Ashlyn came along and gave a whole new meaning to giving.  It's amazing how things change with time.  Being the parents, Krystal and I are more happy watching the expression on Ashlyn & Mitchell's face on Christmas morning than anything else.  Ashlyn may be 14, but she still knows that Christmas is a special time.  Christmas is a time for giving and also receiving.  Mitchell, being 5, still is more interested in the "getting", but that will change as he gets a little older.

Being pastors, sometimes our "Christmas Season" is a little hectic.  We enjoy the gatherings, parties and fun of friends around Christmas time.  Sometimes it's not until Christmas Eve or Christmas that we have some down time and let out a big "sigh".  Last night our family loaded up and headed to eat out and to see the light in Fayetteville.  The town square is lit up with billions of lights it seems.  Our first stop was Red Robin.  Their burgers are great.  Afterwards, we enjoyed seeing the lights, laughing and making memories.  Today, Krystal and the kids are going to bake cookies for Santa and we are hanging out at the house.  There are some gifts that will be wrapped and placed under the tree and then the fun will begin tonight as the kids go to bed with the same excitement that I had when I was there age.  We'll do our best to video and take photos to capture the laughs, smiles and excitement.  Wow, can't wait.

Times have changed.  I do get more pleasure in giving gifts than receiving them.  One day Ashlyn and Mitchell will have families and they will have that same feeling.  It really is more blessed to give than receive.  Isn't that what Christmas is all about?  Leaning the true meaning of giving.   God gave to us because He loved us.  He gets so much enjoyment in blessing His children. Thank you Heavenly Father for giving us the example of giving and also the great feeling we experience as we become more generous....Just like You!

Merry Christmas from the Wheats!  We are truly blessed.

"SLOW ME DOWN"

Many times people will come up and hand me a note or a cartoon that they know that I will enjoy.  Some are articles pertaining to current events and others are just funny cartoons that will make me laugh.  Not to long ago, a gentleman in my church by the name of Neal Reed gave me a business card that I really need to read more often.  In fact, we were at the 50th Wedding Anniversary of his and his wife.  That day was one of those days where we felt like we needed to be at several different places and the day was "packed".  Neal handed me this business card and said, "Hey pastor, I think this may help you out."  He chuckled because he knew we were heading out to catch Ashlyn's basketball game and had a busy schedule ahead of us.

One side of the business card has Neal & Irmalee's mailing address, phone numbers and a phrase that says: "Smile! God loves you and We love you!"  It's always encouraging to hear those words, but it was the words on the opposite side that Neal wanted me to read, too.  The other side reads with the following "prayer".
"Slow me down, Lord, I am going too fast.
I can't see my brother as he goes past;
I miss a lot of good things day by day.
I don't know blessings when they come my way.
Slow me down, Lord, so I can see
More of the things that are good for me;
A littel less of me, a mite more of you,
Let Heavenly atomospherre trickle thru,
Let me help a brother when the going's rough
When folks work together, things aren't so tough;
Slow me down, Lord, so that I can talk
with more of your angels...slow me down to a walk."

In the last phrase the writer says, "Slow me down, Lord, so that I can talk with more of your angels..."  As I read this, I took it that "angels" were the wonderful people that God has placed in our lives and not of the "angels" we think of with wings.

We all are busy and especially this time of year.  Actually I have noticed that it's not just Christmas time that we are busy.  I am usually filling up my calendar 12 months out of the year.  I'm not saying that we need to not work hard.  I believe in working hard and giving it my best.  But sometimes we equate "business" with being productive and that simply isn't true.  God has placed wonderful people in my life and He also brings people across my path.  My desire is that I don't become so busy that I am not making a difference in their lives.  My prayer is that my calendar doesn't get so busy that I don't have time to slow down and enjoy the "angels" God has placed in my life.  "Slow me down, Lord.  Slow me down" so that I can make a difference in someone's life.

It's Christmas Time!

Ahhhh...Christmas Time.  I can't believe it is Christmas 2010.  My dad has told me many times that time goes by faster the older you get.  Well, I know I am getting older but this "time thing" is getting bit ridiculous.

It is Christmas time again and it really is the "most wonderful time of the year".  For the most part, people's attitudes change.  I know there are the "scrooges" out there with their "bah humbug" attitudes, but for the most part I have found Christmas brings out the best in people.  I have already witnessed the attitude and spirit of generosity this season in great amounts.  There have been several people who have shared how they are going to bless others during this Christmas time.  There are many ways to show this caring attitude.  We can give money, gifts, time or sit down and write a note to someone who has been an inspiration in our lives.  If you haven't done this yet, I would encourage you to stop right now and think of a way that you and your family can show the Spirit of CHRISTmas to someone.  After all, look at what Christ has done for you.

It is Christmas time and you can tell it at the Wheat's house.  Last week the lights went up on the house.  I love putting lights up.  We really don't have that much traffic where we live.  In fact, Krystal asked me why I do it for the few cars that come by our house and I said that I do it for those few to enjoy.  She just laughed and went on doing what she was doing.  It's not just the outside but also the inside of our house that yells "It's Christmas Time".  All the decorations are out for this holiday season.  Everyone is asking "What do you want for Christmas?"  Our answers are pretty much the same (except for Mitchell), "Well, I really don't need a thing."  We are truly blessed.

I know we all want things, but do we really "need" anything?  Be a blessing this CHRISTmas season and bless someone else.  There is nothing wrong with exchanging gifts but let's remember the best gift given to us all....JESUS.

Life Coach

Mitchell & his medal
The Wheat family is going from event to event and enjoying life!  Mitchell finished up his debut soccer season.  His team won only one game but he had a blast.  It was great experience for him to learn "team work" and also worked well as a "sleep-aid".  He didn't have any trouble going to sleep after he played his soccer games.    He mostly enjoyed the "snacks" after each game.  You have to remember that at the age of 5, the biggest question is "Who brought the snacks?" instead of "Who won?"  Not one time did Mitchell ask "Who won?"  He was more interested in "Who brought the snacks?"  The league does a good job of making the kids feel good even if they don't win too many games.  They give out a medal of "participation" to all the kids involved.  You would have thought Mitchell had won the World Cup.  He was so proud of his medal that he wanted to wear it to school the next day.  Mitchell had a great coach.  Coach Brock was there to encourage the boys and instruct them.  He laughed with them and also gave them direction.  He was competitive but the boys were out just to have a great time and enjoy the snacks after the game.  He had tremendous patience and did a great job as Mitchell's coach.

Pete Allen presenting Ashlyn her medal
Now on the other hand...Ashlyn is playing basketball for the 9th grade Lady Panthers.  At this level, you don't get snacks after the game.  Winning is what is important and they do keep score.  She is doing well and we love sitting in the stands cheering for #25.  Their team won the Annual Allen's Classic this past week and we were proud for all the girls.  We, as parents, also are thankful for the wonderful coaches that God has placed in her life.  The coaches do coach the girls in basketball, but I have also seen them coach them in life as well.  Thanks Coach Mullikin & Coach Wright.  You want the girls to do great in the game and also do great in life.

Isn't that what all of us want?  Don't we all want someone to "Coach" us through life?  We all desire to have someone who will encourage us and give us direction.  Well, we all have and opportunity to have a coach who will do just that.  There are many who call themselves "Life Coach" and that is great, but the greatest "Life Coach" we have is Jesus Christ.  He instructs us through is "playbook" we call the Bible.  He teaches us through the lessons we learn from our failures and successes.  He has even lived and given us an example to follow.  If you are struggling in the game of life, ask the "Coach" of the Universe what play you need to run and He will give you the answer.

Who Will Take Their Place

This past week I had the honor and privilege of doing a funeral for a sweet lady who was an inspiration to many.  Her name was Mamie Breese and she was 101 years old.  She was an amazing lady who up until a few weeks ago came to church every Sunday morning.  She also lived by herself and was very independent.  Her body didn't "rust" away, but just wore out.  Ms. Mamie was known around our church as the best coconut cream pie maker.  In fact she was known for her pie making, crocheting, sewing, and much more.  She was known as the oldest member of our church and also a prayer warrior.

In fact, there are many things that she did that are becoming lost arts.  Krystal and I have pastored First AG in Siloam for over 9 years now.  When we came, there were many "Prime Timers" that filled several rows of the sanctuary.  Over the past several years, the number of "Prime Timers" has been shrinking.  I have done many of their funerals.  Along with Ms. Mamie's, there was C.W. Cargill, Gerry Hays, Anice Roberts, Naomi McCullough, Wilda McChristian, Jerry Riebe, and others who are now in heaven.  Many of these wonderful people had their own gifts and talents.  For example, C.W. Cargill would make wooden cars and stick horses to give away to children on our missions trips.  Anice Roberts was also known for her pie making skills.  But my question isn't who will take their place of these skills and gifts, but who will take their place as prayer warriors and those who touch heaven?

You see, each one of these people had a special desire for prayer.  Each one of these wonderful people knew how to touch the throne room of God.  I will miss the pies, crocheting, etc., but I will mostly miss the powerful prayers of these dear saints.

I would love for us to learn some of the "arts" and skills that these dears saints had, but most of all I want us to learn the skill of touching heaven from them.  Just the other day Krystal and I were talking about these wonderful people who have gone to heaven and the question came up, "Who Will Take Their Place?".  Not the pie making.  Not the crocheting.  Not the wood working ability.  But who will take their place and stand in the gap to pray?  Will It Be You and Me?

Horse Camp at Devil's Den

Ashlyn's Horse ~ "Catcher"
This past weekend was a great time for me and Ashlyn.  We both really enjoy horseback riding.  Krystal's dad invited us to Devil's Den State Park to camp out and be a part of the Northwest Arkansas Cavalcade's fall ride.  The NWA Cavalcade is a riding club that was established in 1951 and they hold three annual rides a year at Devil's Den State Park.  There are organized rides that leave out each day at 10am or you can go on your own.  This was the first time for me and Ashlyn and we had a great time meeting new people and seeing the beautiful scenery at Devil's Den on horseback.
The timing worked out great for us since Ashlyn was out of school on Friday.  We left Thursday evening and arrived just in time to crawl in the sleeping bags.  I had gone earlier that afternoon and set up our tent so I wouldn't have to do it in the dark.  I have done that before and that is no fun.

"Whiskey Cave"
Ashlyn at "Whiskey Cave"
The next morning we headed out to see the "Whiskey Cave".  It was about a 3 hour ride that took us to a cave that a family had built and lived in up until the 1960's.  It was a beautiful ride and very interesting to see how the family built a rock wall against the mountain to make a one room "apartment" in the middle of nature.  We were able to take a few photos of it.

Ashlyn & her Papaw at "Yellow Rock"
After returning for lunch and having an auction, me and Ashlyn headed back out for an evening ride.  It was great to enjoy the cool evening and enjoy God's creation.  We got back just in time to dig into the fish fry that the club had for everyone at dinner.

"Yellow Rock" Overlook
Saturday morning we went out on another ride that took us to a place called "Yellow Rock".  It was a huge "yellow rock" that was an overlook. WOW, is all that a person can say as they look over the Ozark Mountains from Yellow Rock.  It was a great way to spend the Saturday.  We got back to camp, ate lunch and began tearing down.  Looking back is when I say to myself, "Why don't we do this more often?"

Krystal and Mitchell stayed at home.  They had a picnic at Sonic and then Krystal's mom met them in Fayetteville on Saturday for a day of shopping.  We all were able to do something we really enjoy but don't take the time to do it very often.

All of us made it back home to enjoy the ending of a perfect weekend by watching the Razorbacks beat Texas A&M in football.  Wow, life it good!

Back In the Groove!

Last week a team from our church was preparing to make their way back to Siloam Springs from their missions trip to Brazil.  We got back last Saturday around noon.  It was just enough time for me to get home, unpack, clean up, get a bite to eat and then settle in to watch the Arkansas & Alabama game.  Unfortunately, the game didn't turn out the way I wanted it to.  The first three quarters were great but it fell apart in the last quarter.

This week has been one of catching up and getting "Back In the Groove".  Monday was a day of going through mail, email, phone calls and catching up on the "sick call" list.  We have had many people in our congregation who have been sick or in the hospital.  I also was catching up on my duties of being Sectional Presbyter as well.  Thankfully it wasn't too crazy.  That is because I have a great staff & a great wife who keeps everything going smooth while I am away.

Our family was able to eat dinner and watch a movie together this past Monday as well.  I think that was the highlight of my day.  Tuesday was soccer.  Wednesday was church.  Thursday was soccer and so on.  Mitchell has begun his soccer career.  It is hilarious.  So far he has played three games and he has scored a goal in every game.  Too bad all three goals were for the other teams.  He didn't care because he "made it in the goal."  We have really laughed at his soccer team and the fun they have on the field.  We have 11 more games to go and hopefully by that time Mitchell will know which goal to kick the ball toward.

There is a book that I want to recommend for your reading.  The book is called Radical by David Platt.  It has really been challenging me and my walk with Christ.  It is also challenging me in how we do ministry at our church.  Are we really following the Bible and the words of Jesus Christ.  If you haven't heard of or read Radical, I would highly recommend it.  Our men are studying it on Wednesday nights and it has been an eye opener.

Just one question comes to me after reading this book.... "Do I really know the cost of being a follower of Jesus Christ?"  Christianity can become a label and not a lifestyle if we are not careful.  Our schedules, commitments and even "church" activities can make us feel like we are making a difference.  But I don't think these things make us a true discipleship or even make a difference in other people's lives.   We have to be willing to obey and give up everything for the cause of Christ.

Not only am I getting "Back in the Groove" of being back home but I believe there is something that is getting me "Back in the Groove" of being a follower of Jesus Christ. What are we doing to make an eternal difference?  Maybe we all need to "Get Back In the Groove".

On the Amazon In Brazil

This past Saturday, Sept 18th, a team from our church headed out to Manaus Brazil.  Our goal was to visit two churches that we had sponsored to be built along the Amazon River.  We would also be delivering water filtration systems to the people that go to these churches as well.

When we arrived in Manaus, we went straight to the boat that we would spend the next four nights sleeping in hammocks and going up river to visit the villages.  We stayed docked in Manaus until we left at 3am to go up river.  Not all of us were wrestling to get comfortable in our hammocks because there were two air conditioned cabins that four of our team members used while we were on the boat.  We actually got used to sleeping in the hammocks and they were quiet comfortable when you learned how to lay in it.

We arrived at our first stop in a town called Manacapru. It has a population of about 75,000 and it is also where we went to church on Sunday morning.  Actually, we were late arrivals because of our travels and the service didn't begin until around 12:30.  We were greeted by the congregation holding a sign that read "Welcome Champions of Jesus.  God Save America."  We were warmly welcomed and the service began.   I preached and Missionary Mark Lemos was the interpreter.  One teenage girl gave her heart to the Lord and the altars were filled with these wonderful Brazilian people seeking the Lord.

After service, we gave one of the water filters to the pastor.  He was very appreciative as were all of the people who received one.   As we continued to travel up the Amazon River, we stopped at two more churches and handed out the remaining water filtration systems.  The water filtration systems will help the people because it will filter out the bacteria, parasites and other items in the river water.

Everyone seems to be enjoying the trip and trying new experiences.  The people are very friendly and we have had a wonderful time.  As we have traveled the Amazon, we also have been able to do a little peacock bass fishing.  That has been a blast.  We have caught several peacock bass, Parana and another type of fish that is pronounced "try-eata".

We are now in Manaus and staying in a hotel.  That is the reason that I am able to update.  Where we were at on the river, there was modern conveniences that we enjoy.  The hotel is nice and we will go to the last church that we had sponsored to be built here in Manaus.  Tomorrow we will visit the leper colony and then begin making our way back home.

It has been a great trip and everyone seems to appreciate how blessed we are.  Personally, I am ready to be home and see the family.  I am missing Mitchell's first soccer game while I'm away but hopefully someone will have photos or videos.  That should be funny to watch.  Missing the family and ready for my bed.

A Night With Two of My Favorite Ladies

It has been another "whirlwind week" as we live this wonderful life.  Life is wonderful when you get to take special moments and enjoy those who God has placed in your life.

Krystal and I were able to go to Chicago with some friends last year on Labor Day weekend and spend some time enjoying the "Windy City".  It was our first trip and we'd love to go back.  Ashlyn has always wanted to go to Chicago, but she went to her first "PK" (preacher's kid) retreat instead.  While Krystal and I were in Chicago, we had the opportunity to see the Blue Man Group and we loved it.  If you haven't seen or heard of the Blue Man Group, you need to take a look online at www.youtube.com and put in "Blue Man Group" in the search and get a taste of the show.  It's fun and intriguing.  (www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOL8-qIYemg)

Well, last night we were able to take Ashlyn to see the Blue Man Group at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville.  I had seen an ad and we ordered tickets a couple of months ago, but never told Ashlyn until this past Tuesday night.  She was excited.  It was a great time as we ate at one of our favorite resturants ~ Taco Bueno!  After eating, we headed to the show.  It was a nice evening of hanging out, laughing and making another memory.  It seems like I'm desiring to make more memories with those I love as I live this life.

I am blessed to have two beautiful ladies in my life that God has blessed me with.  Krsytal and I have been married 19 1/2 years and Ashlyn has been part of our life for 14 years.  I don't know what I would do without them.  They both are very talented and intelligent.  They are also an inspiration to me spiritually as well.  I don't know what I did to deserve them in my life, but I'm glad God gave them to me.  In fact, I really didn't do anything to "deserve" them.  They are just another wonderful gift from my Heavenly Father.  Thank you Lord for giving me two wonderful ladies to live my life with.  I will be forever grateful.

Oh, by the way...Mitchell didn't go.  We have some great friends who were willing to let him hang out at their house.  Don't feel sorry for him.  He loved going to the park, swinging and just having fun.  He let us know all about his evening too.

"Heat Stressed"

This has been a hot and dry summer.  I heard on the weather report the other night that it has been 47 days since our last measurable rainfall.  Combine that with 100+ degree weather and it becomes dry very quickly.  In fact, you can see the effects of the hot and dry weather as you drive through the neighborhoods and look at the brown crisp yards.  When you walk across your lawn, the brown grass sounds like a bowl of Rice Krispies as it "snaps, crackles and pops".

This past week was the first time that I had mowed our yard in about three weeks.  I drove home from running errands to begin the task.  There was a note on our front door from our lawn care service.  I have our yard sprayed and fertilized through the year to keep the weeds away.  The note made this statement, "Mr. Wheat, ...The lawn is very heat stressed.  Need to water 3-4 times per week for about 30 minutes each."  My first reaction was, "duh, do you think".  I chuckled at the obvious then I began to mow.

As I was mowing, the words written in the note kept coming to mind..."the lawn is heat stressed".  I began to think that a lot of times our lives become "heat stressed".  In life there are a lot of things that go on that brings about stress.  Jobs, family, bills, calendar activities, blended families, deadlines, are just a few and the list could go on.  Then my mind began to think of ways to combat the "heat stressed" lives that we live.  "Water them and take care of them".  The reason why my lawn was "heat stressed" and basically dying was because it had been neglected.  I have always tried to have a nice looking lawn but this year I had neglected it.  Schedules, heat and other reasons come to mind and they sound like good reasons.  But the bottom line is that my lawn was dying because of neglect.  It is the same with our spiritual lives too.  If we neglect watering our lives with the word of God and worshiping God, it won't take long before we will have "heat stress" and begin to die.  We have "good reasons" or "excuses" why we can't read the word of go to church, but the bottom line is the "heat stress" of life will kill us spiritually if we don't water it.

We need to pay close attention so we live a life that is pleasing to the Lord and be strong.  In Psalm 1, it shares how we can become like "trees planted by streams of water."

Psalm 1:1-3 (NIV) 1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

May we not become "heat stressed" and die, but may we live for the Lord and prosper.  Oh by the way, I have been watering my yard to help it become green and alive again.  There is the hassle of getting moving the sprinklers and turning on the water, but the results will be a fresh, living, green lawn.  It will take time, but it will come.  It is the same spiritually.  There is work, but with time it will come.

Back To School "Firsts"

Well, it has taken place.  "Back to School" took place this past Thursday, Aug 19th.  It was a lot of "firsts" for our family.
It begins with Krystal.  This is the first time in several years that she will be teaching full-time and the first time she will be teaching full time at Siloam High School.  She taught full time at the middle school before we adopted Mitchell.  After the adoption, she took time off to be a full time mom and my part-time assistant at the church.  We all know that a pastor's wife is never "part time".  The opportunity came up to teach full time this year in the business department.  After much prayer and discussion, she applied, offered the job and she accepted it.  I'm proud of her and know that she is going to do a great job.

The next of the "firsts" is Ashlyn going into high school.  Wow, how time flies.  She is on a different campus this year as she begins her 9th grade year at the high school.  It's hard to believe that when we moved to Siloam 9 years ago she began at Northside Elementary in kindergarten.  She said she enjoyed her first couple of days and likes her classes.  Basketball has already begun and she starts her day with practice at 7:30am.  I can't believe she is a 14 yr old 9th grader.  She really enjoyed not having too much homework for the first couple of days, but she also knows that will change quickly.  She's a smart young lady and is doing very well!  We are proud of her.

The last of our "firsts" is with Mitchell.  He began his kindergarten year this past Thursday.  If you know Mitchell, he doesn't like change and loves a schedule.  He didn't really know about going to kindergarten.  In fact, he told Krystal that he was going back to being 4 yrs old so he wouldn't have to go to kindergarten.  She explained it didn't work like that and he would love it.  We met his teacher at open house and her name is Mrs. Kindy.  In fact, at open house Mitchell saw that she had street signs he could play with.  After seeing Mrs. Kindy's street signs and the computers in her room, he was ready for the start of kindergarten.   After the first day, he told Krystal and Ashlyn that he didn't get into trouble or have to sit in "time-out".  I guess for a kindergartner that means you've had a great day at school.
First Day of School Tradition ~ photo in front of the fireplace

So far so good.  I know we have only had two days of school.  There are going to be some big adjustments with Ashlyn in high school and Mitchell getting used to going to school full time but they will be fine.  I am probably the one who will have the biggest adjustment.  All my family is in school.  It just means that we'll have to do really good at making time for our family and make a lot of memories throughout the year to come.

School is great, but his year we have several "firsts" that the Wheat family will have to get accustomed to.

Generosity

I enjoy giving.  Krystal and I have always given our tithes and offerings.  It didn't just happen, but it was because our parents taught us to be givers.  I have never met anyone who regretted giving to the Lord's work.  The following is from a booklet that I have that was written by Brian Kluth.  The booklet is titled, "40 Day Spiritual Journey to a More Generous Life".  It is a devotional booklet to help people become better givers and stewards.  I want to share what I read in the "Day 28" reading.

God Will Reward You for Your Faithful Generosity
and Diligent Labors

"Giving is a giant lever positioned on the fulcrum of this world allowing us to move mountains in the next world.  Because we give, eternity will be different - for others and for us".     ~ Randy Alcorn

1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV) Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Galatians 6:9-10 (NIV) Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Hebrews 6:10-12 (NIV) God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. 11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. 12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

"I have watched over 100,000 families over my years of investment counseling.  I always saw greater prosperity and happiness among those families who tithed than among those who didn't."
                                                                                           ~Sir John Templeton
Think about and pray about these scriptures.  Pray about them and how they relate most to your life.

One thing I know by experience is that whenever I am obedient to God, the blessings flow in my life.  Krystal and I have many testimonies of how God blessed us because we have been faithful in our giving.  If you would like more info on this devotional booklet by Brian Kluth, you can visit his website.  It is www.maximumgenerosity.org.

Back to Work

Well, this was the first week back to work since coming back from vacation.  It has been busy catching up on things, returning phone calls, emails, etc.  But that isn't anything unusual.  In fact, it's pretty normal for anyone who goes away for a two week vacation.  One thing that I am very thankful for is a great staff.  They are the reason that me and the family can take some time away for rest and relaxing.  Thanks guys!!

One thing that is going to be different is Krystal.  For the past several years, Krystal has been my assistant at the church office.  This past week was her last week to be working at the church.  She accepted a full-time teaching position at the Siloam Springs High School.  She was teaching part-time in the mornings last year but after a full-time position opened up and a lot of discussion and prayer, it was the move we felt she needed to take.  She will always be involved in ministry.  It's kind of hard not to be involved in ministry when your husband is the pastor.  Not only that, but she loves to be involved in ministry.  She is called just like I am called.  She also has a special calling and that is to encourage, love and live out Jesus in front of her classroom to make a difference in students' lives.  She'll be missed around the church office, but I know she is following her heart and what God wants for her.

Krystal isn't the only one that is experiencing change this year.  Ashlyn is starting high school.  It's hard to believe that she is going into the 9th grade.  Then there is Mitchell.  He begins kindergarten this year.  He doesn't really know if he is going to like it or not.  He told Krystal the other day that he was going to go back to being four so he wouldn't have to go to kindergarten.  :)  He'll be fine.  In fact, all of them will do great.  I am very proud of my wife, daughter and son.  They are a real blessing to me.

Run For Fun!

Run for Fun?
What in the world am I saying? I can't believe it either. When I was i
n school, I was in good shape because of playing different sports. Even when I graduated and going to college I was in pretty good shape. I would run, play racquetball and was pretty active. Just like most of us, after getting married and staying busy with ministry or jobs, I became a "more rounded" person. My activities became more of office activities instead of "exercising" activities. There have been a few times when I would get back to walking or playing racquetball but it would fade with business. Yes, I admit, there was some laziness in there, too. lol!

When I was gone to a Fire Bible Summit
in California a few weeks ago, I called home to chat with my beautiful wife. As we talked, she told me that she had made a goal to run a 5k with Ashlyn. I paused for a moment and said....okay. She continued to explain that she had found a running program called "The Couch to 5K" running program. Now, before I go any further, you must remember that Krystal is not a runner and she doesn't really do anything athletic. That's not a "slam" or "insult" but just the truth. She would tell you the same thing. After explaining the running program Couch to 5K, I was excited for her. She began running the program with a friend and pushed herself.

She was faced with a "test" because we were heading out on vacation fo
r two weeks. The more she talked to me about it, the more I became interested. It had been a while since I had ran, but thought I'd give it a try. So, on vacation, I began The Couch to 5k program.

Today, Krystal finished week three and I began it. I am so proud of Krystal and a little surprised in myself. It's not an easy program but it has become fun. We talk to each other about our runs and how we struggled and then overcame.
It has been a stretch but a fun one. Ashlyn is running but she has a head start because of all the sports that she is involved with.

Krystal has set a goal and she is looking at running her first 5k in September. You Go Girl!!!!! I'll keep updating on how our Run For Fun is going!
One last thing, we welcome your comments and encouragement!

Vaction Time!

We are in one of our favorite times of the year as a family. Each year we plan out where we are heading for vacation. This year, it is Gatlinburg, TN and Lake Lure, NC. We are actually staying in Sevierville, TN. Sevierville, Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg are here very close together. They are located in the Smoky Mountains and it a great family get away.

We left out last Thursday evening and spent the night with my mom & dad before heading out to TN on Friday. It has been a great time of relaxing and making memories. We'
ve gone to Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg the other day and really had a great time. We have been there a few times and it's always a big hit for the family. You can see Mitchell & Ashlyn's reaction as we took there photos.

We also went the other night to see the show "Cirque de Chine". I think it means "The Chinese Circus" and it was amazing! We couldn't believe how limber the people were and their balance was unreal. We would highly recommend it. There is one in Branson that we had seen several years ago and it was great, too.

This past Sunday, we attended The Smoky Mountain Cowboy Church. It was good, but wasn
't our church. I missed our services this past Sunday and look forward to seeing everyone when we get back. The week has been filled with swimming, shopping, mini-golf, sightseeing, laughing and making a lot of memories.

We love vacation.
We head out tomorrow for Lake Lure, NC. It is about 2 1/2 hours from where we are staying now. Krystal, being the planner and detail person, sat down last night and looked at what we could do while we are there. It will be a place of sight seeing, but also hiking, swimming, and picnicking. Look forward to see what Lake Lure, NC holds for the annual Wheat Family Vacation! Just two things are missing from our vacation....Molly & Max. They are our two Yorkies. But they are in good hands with our house sitter. Thanks Jennie!

Ready, Set, Go!

READY, SET, GO!

These are words that I long to hear come this Thursday. Why? It's vacation time come this Thursday. Our family loves vacation. In fact, Mitchell has been asking for the past several weeks, "When is vacation?" It's the same question that me and Krystal have also been asking in a joking manner as well.

I have been traveling a bit more than usual lately but it hasn't been vacation. In fact, just a couple of weeks ago I said to Ashlyn, "I'm ready for vacation." Her response? "You just got back from Brazil." I explained to her that just because I was on a trip didn't mean that I was on vacation. I explained that vacation is when you don't have a schedule and you can sleep in when you want and also don't have to think about much of anything. When I'm on vacation, I don't speak, teach or prepare anything except what we may be doing that day. She laughed and agreed.

I did just get back last week from California. No, it wasn't a vacation but I was part of the Fire Bible Summit for Children. It sounds like a vacation since we were at Pebble Beach, CA. In fact, I was able to check off something from my "Bucket List". I played golf at Pebble Beach. They had just held the 2010 US Open Golf Tournament there. Wow, it was great. But the trip wasn't about golf. It was about the new Children's Fire Bible. We gathered and heard about this great Bible that is being developed just for children. It is the first, to my knowledge, pentecostal study bible for kids. It was great playing at Pebble, but even greater to be a part of giving the Word of God to children.
(18th Hole at Pebble Beach)

Vacation is coming and I'm Ready. I'll keep up posted on our adventures when and if we have internet. We plan to stay around Pigeon Forge, TN for a week and then head to Lure Lake, NC. It will be a blast and I look forward to it.

READY, SET, GO on vacation! Have Fun & Make Memories!

Big Weekend!

Fourth of July is a big day and it will make for a big weekend of being with friends and family. My mom & dad are coming up tonight and will be with us this 4th of July weekend. Tomorrow (Saturday), we will head over to the Springdale Rodeo Parade where me and Ashlyn will ride down Emma St with the Top Hands Riding Club. This is the riding club we are members of. It is made up of a great group of people who enjoy horses, fun and God's creation. After we ride in the parade, we'll head over to my sister's house and spend the afternoon visiting and eating homemade ice-cream. She lives in Springdale and they will be coming to our house on Sunday to grill out and enjoy our freedom.

This is a big weekend for our families and friends because of one reason...FREEDOM. Because of the freedom we have in this country, we can enjoy our family and friends. We can enjoy doing what we want and when we want to do it. Just last evening I was reminded of those who have given so I can live in freedom. I was in Hobby Lobby picking up something for the church when a young man, who looked to be about 25 yrs old, begin sharing that he had been given a medical discharge from the Army. He was serving in Baghdad when his vehicle was hit by an IED (improvised explosive device). He shared that two of the men he was with was killed and he had lost 90% of his hearing in his left year and had major damage to his vertebrates in his back. I stood there thinking how proud I was to live in America. I am grateful for young men and women like Josh who are willing to fight for our freedom.

Freedom....think about it. I'm proud to be an American and I'm thankful for those who fight for my freedom. God Bless the USA!

Dad' Day Cook-off & Land Dedication!

DAD'S DAY COOK-OFF & LAND DEDICATION

What a great day we had yesterday at First AG in Siloam Springs. It was our 2nd Annual Dad's Day Cook-off. We had cars, trucks, jeeps, and motorcycles lined up to see on our new property. There were also several who were doing their best to win bragging rights with their special grilled meats. This event is so much fun. It is a way to honor what father's love most ~ meat, cars, family & friends. We were honored to have Mayor David Allen, City Administrator David Cameron and Chief Police Joe Garrett as our official judges in the cook-off. Each one said they wanted to be a part of our 3rd Annual Cook-off next year. Plans are underway!

Yesterday was also a special day because we had our Land Dedication as well. All the events were held on our new property located at 2909 Cheri Whitlock here in Siloam Springs. It was our first official service & event to be held at the property. Everyone was very excited to be able to "put their feet" on the property. I shared a message "Possessing the Promises of God". At the end of the message, each person was given a small dram container that was filled with dirt from the property. I asked each one to take it and put it in their pocket, purse or a visible place so it would remind them to pray for the piece of property God had given to us. It was an amazing day. I am excited to see what God has for us in the future.

A special thanks goes out to everyone who made it a huge success. Because it was held on the property, there was a lot of work and planning that went into it. Tents, chairs, electric power, tables, food, drinks, sound, stage, security, greeters, ushers, parking attendants, judging, set-up/tear down and so much more. What a great group of people we have at First AG in Siloam Springs. You are the best!!!!

Back Home

Well, I made it back home from my trip to Brazil. It was an amazing time and I am so thankful for the work being done there for the Kingdom of God. Mark and Helba Lemos are the missionaries that are living in Pindamonhangaba (I call it Pinda for short) Brazil. It is a city of about 150,000 people. The Bible School has an enrollment between 100-150 students. Their Distant Education has an enrollment of over 8,000. Wow, God is doing wonderful things.
(Photo: Raymond Frizzelle, Mark Little,
Gary Wheat & Missionary Mark Lemos)

The trip home was an overnight flight. Our plane actually was delayed 3 hours and we ended up leaving at 12:40am. One thing that was interesting to me was how all Brazilians stopped everything on Tuesday at 3pm to watch Brazil's first game in the World Cup Soccer Match. They love their "futebol". We were standing in the airport when the Brazilian team scored their first goal and you would have thought they had already won the World Cup. People when absolutely nuts. They did end up winning the game against North Korea and everyone went wild. It was interesting.

The trip was really good and we are planning a trip for September to go back. Our church had funded the building of two churches in the Amazon and we are taking a team back to see them. I will also be preaching in the two churches we built. While we are there we will also be helping to install water filtration systems in some of the local villages. The systems will help filter the water from bacteria and other harmful items found in the water. Right now there will be 11 people from First AG taking that journey.

It is good to see what God is doing, but it is also great to be back home. As I was going through customs and immigration at DFW, I heard some wonderful words from the immigration officer...."Welcome Home Sir!"

Missions is the heart of God and I am thankful that He has allowed me and First AG to make an impact across the street and across the sea.

Brazil Continued ~ Rio De Janeiro

A Day In Rio De Janeiro

Well, this is day three on for our Brazil trip and we left this morning from Pinda and headed on a four hour journey to Rio De Janeiro. Today was a day that we set back and enjoyed an overnight trip to take in the beauty of Rio. After checking into our hotel and getting a bite to eat, we headed to "Sugar Loaf Mountain". It is a mountain that overlooks Rio and the Atlantic Ocean. What beauty of God our creator. All creation calls that God is the one and only.

To get to the top of Sugar Loaf, you have to take two "gondola" to the top. Missionary Mark Lemos timed it just right so that we would be up on top of the mountain for the sun setting over the bay area in Rio. It was beautiful. Photos will have to come later due to the fact I left my camera transfer cable in Pinda.

Mark has been a great host on the trip. Tomorrow we will get up early and take in the "Christ the Redeemer" statue. This is the statue that is seen in photos of Rio. Afterwords, we will head back to Pinda where Helba, Mark's wife, will fix a Brazilian dinner and we will hear a final presentation of the Distant Education Project of the Bible School. The Bible School's Distance Education is reaching over 8,000 students. WOW!!!!!! They have over 8,000 students that are being trained through Distant Education of the Bible. It is incredible how they are reaching and training people to do the work of the ministry. It is exciting.

Thanks for your prayers for this family and the Bible School. God is doing great things and we feel honored to have a part.

Brazil Trip

Well, I left yesterday afternoon from XNA to begin my journey to Pinda Brazil to be with Missionaries Mark & Helba Lemos. They are friends of ours and also missionaries that our church supports on a monthly basis. Mark invited some pastors come to and be a part of launching a new project for their Bible School. It's always exciting to be a part of what God is doing. I hope to journal/blog each day and its events.

Today we landed around 6:30 local time. It was a 10hr overnight flight from DFW. The flight wasn't bad and I was able to do quite a bit of reading. Mark met us at the airport in Sao Paulo and after going through customs we made it to our hotel in Pinda. We rested for a bit and then Mark pick us up for lunch and then to the Bible School in Pinda. We were given a tour of the Bible School and it has grown quite a bit since I was here 14 yrs ago. God has truly blessed the work here in Pinda.

Tonight we are having Chapel Communion Service and Mark Little will be preaching. Mark pastors a great church in Elk City, OK.

Looking forward to seeing what God has in store as we become part of the vision that He has given to Mark and Helba Lemos. I'll keep updating the journey as I can. Thank you for your prayers for us and also the great work that is taking place here in Pinda.

It's Coming!

Wow, can't believe it's coming. Memorial Day Weekend is just a couple of days away. This means that people will be heading out to celebrate with family & friends. Cook-outs, swimming, fishing and the "official" start to the summer.
For our family, we have a Memorial Weekend tradition. It is "Rodeo Parade" weekend. Me & Ashlyn will ride Saturday in the Van Buren parade and then on Monday we will ride in the Old Fort Days Rodeo Parade. Krystal, Mitchell and her family will be on the "sidelines" watching as the parade of cars, fire trucks, bands and horses pass by. It is a blast. It is hard work getting everything together, but it's a blast to sit on a horse and wave to all the little kids that stand in awe of how big the horses seem to them.
After riding in the parades, we begin riding in the Grand Entry at the Old Fort Days Rodeo in Ft. Smith. We will ride Monday night where there are usually between 800-1000 horses that participate in the first night of the Grand Entry. We'll have to come back to Siloam because of work and Ashlyn still has a couple of days left in school. She already has told me and Krystal that she is heading back down to spend Thursday ~ Sat at Papaw & Memommy's house so she can ride in the Grand Entry and attend the Rodeo on Thursday, Friday & Saturday.

Mitchell isn't quite big enough (and still enough) to ride, but he enjoys watching all the action from the bleachers. It's always a great time of fun and entertainment. If you live close to Ft. Smith, I would encourage you to go at least one night. It is a blast.

Next week I'll let you know if anyone from our riding club has a rodeo on their own during the parades. lol!

Just Updating!

How many passwords do you have..... 3, 4, 5 or a dozen? When you stop to think about it, it's amazing how many passwords and user-names people have. Maybe you are not like me and only have one or two. Stop and think for a moment ~ one for your ATM, email, blog, voicemail, bank account, house alarm, cell phone account, loan accounts, etc. It really is amazing that we can keep up with all of it. Well, sometimes (like today) my mind goes blank and I have to use the "forgot your password" line and retrieve it to log into my blog, email, etc. High tech security helps keep us safe for the most part. As we continue in the high tech world, the need for more high tech user-names will be needed as well. Amazing when you stop and think about it.

Just an update with Ashlyn and being able to meet Jennie Finch last weekend. Jennie Finch was the pitcher for Team USA softball team. She won gold and silver medals. Krystal, Ashlyn and Kim and Paige Fielden headed down to Ardmore, OK for Jennie Finch's Softball Camp. Ashlyn & Paige play on the same softball team and really had a great time. Ashlyn was able to learn about athletic ability, attitude and how important academics are. Krystal told me that Jennie Finch and several other Olympians were not ashamed to share about their faith in Jesus Christ. Looking at their blogs was really encouraging to us (jenniefinch27.blogspot.com) . Ashlyn was also able to get their autographs and the big honor was getting her photo taken with Jennie Finch and holding the gold medal. I've never even met anyone who has seen a gold medal in person let alone touch one. Too cool for her!

Tonight is Mitchell's big night. He is graduating from Pre-School. Can't believe he is already heading into kindergarten next year. This Sunday, we will celebrate "Gotcha Day". It's the day that we were able to pick him up from the orphanage in Russia. We are so thankful that God placed him in our family.

Krystal is winding down school. She teaches business courses part-time at Siloam High School. I believe she is ready to get out just as much as the students. She does a great job of juggling teaching, working at the church and being a great mom & wife. I am so blessed! We are heading down to Van Buren tomorrow for a visit and horseback riding. It's that time of year again. Next week, we'll ride in the Van Buren Parade and the Old Fort Days Parade and Grand Entry. It's always a lot of fun.

Another great week and making the most of our lives.

Belonging

We all want to belong to something. Even as kids we wanted to have a "club" and a "clubhouse". There is something about belonging to something that makes us feel good and makes us feel important. It may be that we want to belong so we don't feel left out.

This is the last day of the Arkansas District Council. It is the annual meeting of our Assemblies of God Fellowship of the state of Arkansas. It begins on Monday night and goes through Wed morning. It's a good time of refreshing as we participate in church services and also see friends from across the state.

Dr. James Bradford, who is our General (national) Secretary of the Assemblies of God spoke Monday night and then again on Tuesday morning. Both times were good, but Tuesday morning made me so glad that I BELONG to the Assemblies of God. Yes, I know that it is a "Cooperative Fellowship but I BELONG with the AG. As Dr. Bradford shared his message, it just brought about a sense of being part of something great. It's not about the AG and the AG is not perfect, but I feel like the AG is moving in the right direction. I'm so glad I belong. All the messages should be up on our District's website soon. (www.araog.org) You can also hear some great messages and get info about the Assemblies of God at www.ag.org .

The 2010 District Council is concluding and I'm heading back home. Oh, by the way. I'm glad I belong to my family as well. Ready to see them and get "back in the groove". Just remember, you and I belong to something or should I say someone far better than an organization or club. We belong to the body of Christ.

Enjoying Life

Wow, how the week has gone by. My dad has told me that the older you get the faster time goes by. Time does seem to be going by fast, but I don't want to say I'm getting old. Even though there are things that are going on in our house that remind me that time doesn't stand still and every moment counts.

First of all, Ashlyn got her book to study for her driver's test. She has been asking us to get her one since she turned 14 in February. This past week I finally stopped by and picked it up for her. I went by her room a moment ago because I hadn't heard her "stirring around". There she was laying on her bed studying away like it was a final exam to pass the Bar Exam. It won't be long until asking for the keys to the car will replace the asking for a driver's Ed book. She's definitely growing up too fast. But for now, we are going to enjoy every moment. We head out to Bentonville tomorrow for a softball tournament. She is doing great and next week will go to Ardmore, OK to the Jenny Finch Softball Clinic. Wow, these past 14 years have gone by.

Secondly, Mitchell is registering for Kindergarten this next week. Right now, Krystal is going over his "paper work" asking him questions. One question is "A rock is hard, but a pillow is ______" and he has to fill in the blank. He also has to draw a boy or girl and trace a line from one side of the paper to the other. Can't believe he is heading to Kindergarten next year. All I can say is Pray for the Teachers!!!!!!!! Ha!!!

This past week has been busy. My parents were in for the weekend and decided they are ready to move to Siloam Springs. Dad is retired and mom is ready to retire, I believe. It will be nice to have them up here with us. My sister and her family live in Springdale, so that will mean they will be closer to their immediate families. They went home after this weekend and put their house on the market. They are now leaving it in God's hands. God has His timing for everything.

Another week has gone and we are blessed! Next week I will be in Little Rock for the annual Arkansas Assemblies of God District Council Meeting. It's good to see friends and hear the great speakers that inspire and encourage you. It's also nice to get back home to the family as well.
Have a great week and make a positive difference in your world.

What a Weekend!

Wow!! What a weekend. I don't know if NWA could pack anymore into a weekend like this past one. First of all, the Annual Dogwood Festival was held here in Siloam Springs. I have lived here for 9 years and have only attended this event a couple of times. It's a great family event, but it seems like it rains every year (this one no exception) and we usually have other things taking place. Race For the Cure was also taking place this past Saturday. For all the Razorback fans, the annual "Razor Fest" was taking place all day Saturday with the annual Red & White Game Saturday evening. But....the greatest event for us was our Annual Missions Convention. It began last weekend with Missionary Mike Louton speaking to us in our pm service. This past Saturday was our annual missions banquet "Taste Your Way Around the World". That is exactly what we did. There were different "booths" that represented different regions from around the world. Each booth was decorated and had the foods from different countries for people to taste. It was a blast. Sunday morning, the First AG choir did an outstanding job in presenting the missions production "Every Way". It was awesome!
I love missions. I believe it is the heart beat of God. It is so important for us to put God first and also to put the things of God first. Missions will always be a part of our lives. In fact, Krystal and I met on a missions trip in Mexico City. Her dad said that most people bring back a souvenir but Krystal brought back a husband.

Going on a missions trip will change you. In fact, this year our church will be involved in three different missions projects. The first missions trip will be June 11-18. This team will be going to Pinon, AZ to build a church on the Navajo Reservation. It will be an exciting time for those who go. The second trip will be to El Salvador. This team will be involved in doing compassion ministry in the different villages and towns they are going to. Our third trip will be heading to Brazil. A couple of years ago, our church built two churches on the Amazon River. I will be preaching in those churches and the team will be doing ministry in the services as well. While we are down there, we will also be installing "water filtration" systems in some villages to help combat the diseases that come from bad water.

I am so proud of our church and congregation. "Send us to the nations!" If you read this blog and would like to be a part of one of these trips, please contact our church office at 479-524-9541 or you can respond to this blog.

Family Fun in Branson

Great Family Fun!
This past weekend our family headed to Branson. We had bought season passes to Silver Dollar City. Branson is only a couple of hours away and a great overnight get-away for a family and season passes are a great deal if you go more than two times. We were all ready for a quick get away but forgot one little thing.
All last week the weather was pretty warm ~ in the upper 70's and even low 80's. Neither one of us (Krsytal or me) checked the forecast for Branson. Because of this, we also didn't pack the right clothes. We had shorts & t-shirts in the bag for a warm day at SDC. Well, the temperature began dropping Friday night and the rain began to come down. Luckily the rain stopped, but the high for SDC was 62 degrees. It was just a little chilly for wet rides and roller coasters.
SDC was celebrating "World Fest". This is the season when they bring in different cultures from around the world to put on shows and demonstrate music, dancing, etc. We found ourselves at most of the shows and enjoyed the WARM, dry shows as we learned and watched people from Argentina, Mexico, China, Russia and many more countries. It was a great time.
We did get to ride some rides (elephants, tea cups, caterpillars ~ can you tell we rode with Mitchell).
We really do enjoy our family time. It's important to take time away from the busyness of life, jobs and agendas and focus on the blessings of the family we have been given. I am so thankful for Krystal, Ashlyn & Mitchell. My life wouldn't be complete without the laughs, fun and good times we have.
Just one word of advice ~ if you are going on a quick get away, be sure to check the weather!

It's Wed

This month is going by very fast. It may be because of all the events at church and also in the family. We are gearing up for our Missions Emphasis time at church for the next two Sundays. Missionary Mike Louton will be with us this Sun pm. Then our Annual Missions Banquet is taking place on Sat, April 24th. It will be a blast with different booths representing the different regions around the world that we support with missions. Then on Sun morning, April 25th, the First AG Choir will present the "EVERYWAY" missions musical. Looking forward to it.

On the "home-side" of things, Ashlyn is in full swing (no pun intended) of softball. Her first tournament was postponed, but practice continues. She just registered to attend her first Jenny Finch Softball camp. It will be in Ardmore, OK in a few weeks. Jenny Finch is one of her softball heroes. There will be professional coaches, players and Olympic players as well. Sounds exciting.
As for Mitchell, he doesn't need a professional or players as long as he has his signs ~ street signs that is. He is "obsessed" with street signs. It is hilarious! He's living the life of a 5 year old and loving it.
The kids always bring joy to our lives. We are so blessed to have family ~ both church and biological.

Beautiful Day!

Wow, what a beautiful day! It's a little cool, but Spring is definitely here. I am looking forward to the weekend! Ashlyn had softball tournament scheduled for this weekend, but it has been postponed. But never fear, things have already filled up our Sat. Mitchell has a birthday party for a friend. I have yard work to do. Ashlyn is wanting to go to a soccer game. Krystal is always on a project and then we are going to a wedding tomorrow night. I never worry about not having much to do.
I am reading the One Year Bible and have really enjoyed it. This morning I read a great scripture in Proverbs 12:25 Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.

Take time on this beautiful day and share an encouraging word with someone to cheer them up.

I can't see my brother as he goes past;
I miss a lot of good things day by day.
I don't know blessings when they come my way.
Slow me down, Lord, so I can see
More of the things that are good for me;
A littel less of me, a mite more of you,
Let Heavenly atomospherre trickle thru,
Let me help a brother when the going's rough
When folks work together, things aren't so tough;
